Dance

Moving

Dance is anytime your child moves to the rhythms of the sounds he hears.

Dance can be a sway, a twirl, or a jiggle. Dance can be fast or it can be slow, but most of all dance is movement.

Your child is learning about himself and the world around him through movement. Playing your child’s favorite music and encouraging him to dance and play supports gross motor skill (large muscle) development and spatial exploration as your child moves in the space around him.

Movement includes exploration, experimentation, and discovery. Dancing helps your child explore all the new ways his body can move, such as using the large muscles of the body like his arms and legs to do a twist and a turn, a leap or a shimmy. Remember, dance is an art form, and when combined with the child dancing freely to the music (without following the moves of an adult) it will promote creativity and self-expression.
